Polymers - Organic Chemistry - can anyone help with this?

OH OH OH Complete the polymer tutorial, available on ChemistryLand: http://www.chemistryland.com/PolymerPlanet/Polymers/PolymerTutorial.htm The structure olymer chain. Post a SUBSTANTIVE and PROFESSIONAL initial report of at least 350 words to the following, above represents a portion ofa providing specific examples to support your answers. Explain, based on its structure and functional groups, what properties this polymer has. Would it be elastic or rigid? Would it be dissolved easily by hydrocarbon solvents, such as gasoline? Would it have a low or high melting point? . Consider the same polymer without the pendant isopropyl groups (replace them with hydrogens). What changes would occur to the polymer properties?

Explanation / Answer

a:) This polymer has a branched structure and due to this branching the polymer will be rigid .

b:) yes, it would be easily dissolved by the hydrocarbon solvent gasoline.

c:) the polymer is highly branched with isopropyl groups and branching decreases the melting point of a compound. Therefore, the melting point of the given polymer decreases with branching and it has low melting point.

d:) When the branched isopropyl groups are replaced by hydrogen atoms than tha polymer is no more branched polymer however, it becomes a linear polymer and its properties changes. Now it becomes more elastic in nature , it is now less soluble in organic solvents as it becomes more polar now and it will have high melting point as compare to the branced one.
