Question
Micha Using Le Chatelier's Principle to predict the result of changing concentr.. Sulfur dioxide and oxygen react to form sulfur trioxide, like this: 2502@to2(e) 2S03(g) Suppose a mixture of SO2, O2 and SOs has come to equilibrium in a closed reaction vessel. Predict what change, if any, the perturbations in the table below will cause in the composition of the mixture in the vessel. Also decide whether the equilibrium shifts to the right or left. perturbation change in composition shift in equilibrium a to the right tothe left The pressure of so2 wilDa to the left The pressure of 02 will 0 ) | (none) The pressure of soz will? Some SO3 is added a to the right The pressure of sop will 2to the left The pressure of SOs wil Some 02 is removed (none) The volume of the vessel is The pressure of SOs will 2 increased to the right tothe left (oone)Explanation / Answer
a.) when SO3 is added reaction shift to the backward side. so, moles of SO2 and O2 increase hence there pressure increase.
b.) when O2 is removed reaction shift to the backward side. the pressure of SO2 increase as its mole increase but the pressure of O2 decrease.
c.) an increase in volume reaction moves toward higher moles side so it shifted to left side. so, pressure of SO3 is decrease.
