Question
I will rate your response up or down!
All major aviation operations (flight, maintenance, air traffic control, and airport) can induce substantial amounts of fatigue and circadian disruptions on the humans conducting and managing those operations.
Evaluate aircraft maintenance and the sources of fatigue which impacted that operation. Include in your discussion how circadian rhythms can contribute to fatigue. Next, creatively apply the implications of fatigue on that operation and explain both how and why you believe it could negatively impact safety. Finally, propose means for mitigating the associated fatigue and improving safety in that operational field. As always, support your work with a reliable source.
Explanation / Answer
FATIGUE: It is defined as extreme illness resulting from mental or physical weakness and cause someone to feel exhausted. The lack of motivation and energy can be noticed and the desire to sleep may accompany fatigue.
FATIGUE IN AVIATION OPERATIONS: The main reason why fatigue is very commonly observed in many aviation operations is the work timings. The multiple time zones are the common problem they face and this results in heavy workload due to the time pressure. Especially the flight crew are majority who face short-term fatigue due to night flights and early wakeups. They are supposed to work for CONSECUTIVE DUTY PERIODS without sufficient relaxation time.
Pilots situation is even worse compared to other aviation operation members. Regional or domestic Pilots are the one who carry out MULTIPLE TAKE-OFFS AND LANDINGS everyday which can easily result in CHRONIC FATIGUE. While the international pilots do suffer from continuous duty overnights and they don't even enough time to eat or take a nap. Fatigue can be caused by number of factors but the main culprit is lack of sleep. Almost 25-40 percentage of accidents are caused due to human activities which also includes fatigue because it's risk can greatly impact every flight operation.
Human fatigue has been the main reason in many aircraft accidents. Unmanaged fatigue risk can put the SAFETY OF PASSENGERS AT RISK, can be very costly and also negatively impact the reputation of company. The CIRCADIAN RHYTHM is produced by a group of cells in our brain which acts like a clock. It is the main reason to alert our brain and keep active during daytime and helps to sleep at night. The only major best fatigue MITIGATION is making the habit of getting daily adequate sleep and give top priority to sleep. The aviation operations management should take care about the health of their staff and especially pilots. They should also increase their staff in numbers so that different group of staff work for limited duration of their duty. This MULTIPLE DUTY SHIFTS can help airlines company to reduce the rate of accidents being occurred throughout the world.
