b)What is the treatment for an ear block on ascent? Is this treatment different than if you had an ear block on descent? If so, why?
c)Why should you not fly with an upper respiratory infection? What body parts are affected by the infection? What in-flight treatment could you use if you did fly sick?
d)Compare and contrast the symptoms of hypoxia and hyperventilation.

Explanation / Answer

1)Hypoxia is a type of oxygen deficiency where the amount of oxygen reaching the tissues is solw or very less. Among many types of hypoxia, stagnant hypoxia is more dangerous because here the amount of oxygen reaching the tissues is very less or very very slow. This may result in cardiac attacks which are very dangerous.

2)Chewing gums or eating sweets may help in opening of Eustanchian tubes and prevent ear drum damage. Tablets like sudafed and sprays may help to reduce the amount of swelling caused around the eustanchian tube. For ear ascent the inflation occurs inside while for descent the inflation occurs outside. The medicines may be different because the medicine used for inner treatment cannot be used for outside purpose also as it may cause some side effects.

3)When flying with upper respiratory infection,we may not receive enough amount of air at height and due to respiratory problem and lack of oxygen at an heighest point, the problem might become severe and may cause further respiratory problems. During this mainly lungs are effected. For this kind of problem,we should ensure that we live in a clean environment with fresh air.

4)Hypoxia occurs when the amount of oxygen delivered to the tissues is very less in amount and is possible to cause aneamia. Hyperventilation occurs when we start to breathe very fast. Issues occur as there is no balance in amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide taken in and out.
