Post your thoughts in your group's discussion board about ONE of the following topics. Then, provide your feedback by replying to another student's post.

1) Why it is futile to attribute one particular extreme event, such as Hurricane Harvey, to Climate Change?
2) Why are scientists very confident that freshwater flooding, especially from hurricanes, is increasingly problematic as the climate warms?
3) What characteristic does an infrastructure built on the assumption of stationarity have? and why is it inappropriate in the changing climate?
4) Any other concepts in the video you find significant and/or relevant to your experience.

Grading Criteria:
Advanced (AD): Expressing individual thoughts and opinions with critical thinking in one thread, AND replying at least to another person with thoughtful and constructive comments or discussions.

Competent (CP): Expressing individual thoughts and opinions with critical thinking in one thread; not replying to others' threads or only replying with "I agree with you."

Not Competent (NC): Only restating others' threads (without demonstrating understanding or individual thinking) or only replying with "I agree with you."

Explanation / Answer

Topic 2:  Why are scientists very confident that freshwater flooding, especially from hurricanes, is increasingly problematic as the climate warms?

First of all, I do say the proof of this fact can be explained by discussing how hurricanes form?

As we know when there is extreme temperature during summer near equatorial region, the hot and light land air rises up into the atmosphere and create vacant spaces. On the other hand the, in the ocean the warm moist and relatively heavy air coming towards the land near coastal region(to cover the vacant area) and twisted within to form hurricanes. As this hurricane contains lots of water within it, it also causes heavy rainfall near the coast causing 'fresh-water flooding'.

Now as this is a result of high temperature, the recent increase in global temperature due to climate will create more problems in this freshwater flooding. As a fact, scientists are saying, over the past 20 years, the overall earth temperature increases about 1.5-degree Fahrenheit and the sea level increases about 8 inches. These are the real facts that climate has been changing vigorously and temperature increases.

So in nature, if there is more temperature, there will be warmer and moist wind(higher in amount), will create more hurricanes near the coast and that will create more freshwater flooding.

So, the worry is indeed very significant.
