Question
Please help with the following questions.1. Explain why astronomers use astronomical units and light years instead of miles or kilometers. Give one specific example each for astronomical units and light years used in astronomy. 2. What are some of the differences between how the ancients (e.g. Aristotle) viewed Earth and the cosmos versus post-Galileo views? 3. Rank the following in order of greatest size to smallest size: AU, light year, galaxy, universe, planet, Sun-like star, cluster of galaxies, comet 4. What are the steps of the scientific method? Why is it useful? 5. Calculate the number of seconds in 1 year. Show your work, and express the answer in scientific notation. 1. Explanation / Answer
One Astronomical unit is 93 million miles or 150 million kilometers. That is the distance between the sin and earth. This distance expression in 1AU, 2AU is easier than 90 million miles. For light year, the distance that light travels in one year will be a lot of numbers to express. That's why 1 light year is used.
