Please type down (easy for me to copy and paste) your response (thoughts) after your reading the following paragraphs. (min 5 sentences, around 150-200 words)
Olivier Scalabre talks about how economic growth has been slowing over the past 50 years, and that new manufacturing is being developed which is going to begin a period of economic growth. Scalabre believes that new technological advancements are going to make manufacturing more efficient which will lead to an increase in jobs, productivity and growth. I agree with Scalabre that newer technology such as 3D printing will allow us to complete tasks more efficiently and even complete tasks that we weren’t able to do before, but I don't believe that this will lead to job growth. If we have technology that can do tasks quicker than humans can, there would be no point for businesses to hire employees, which would destroy tons of jobs.
I believe that creating robots to perform human tasks could threaten most jobs across the country. There’s no question that these robots would be more efficient in creating and delivering products, but it could cause a big economic problem if millions of people are unemployed. Business owners would rather have robots than employees because they don’t have to pay robots a salary, or pay for benefits. This next manufacturing revolution will definitely boost productivity, but I believe that it will destroy jobs not create them.
Explanation / Answer
If we see the current scenario and compare the efficiency and work power of a computer then we can easily say that using robots will surely decrease the conventional jobs as it’s almost impossible to compete with robots but that doesn’t mean that we should stop using them because adding robots and automation into industries will create new jobs and industries will hire people to monitor these machines, engineers will be required to maintain these machines, programmers to program and protect them from viruses, data miners for collecting their data and extracting vital informations our of this data. Hence we need to sharpen our skills, how to inculcate new technology in the production process such that we can always have an advantage over the new breeds of machines. After all technology is a great servant but a bad master and hence we have to supervise the overall automation process and this will create ample amount of opportunities in the market.
