For the purpose of our study let us take the popular sports apparel brand 'Nike'.

Nike encourages employees to engage in volunteer work and CSR activities through its internal programs that provide training in areas such as leadership, mentoring, career development, and a sense of purpose and responsibility towards the society. The company acknowledges the fact that employees efficiency, larger role, responsibility and effectiveness influence the company's business.

Nike has tied up with several organizations in order to participate in social development activities. The organizations include Children Sport Foundation in Russia, China Education Foundation in China, Bola Pra Frente in Brazil and several other organizations that work towards welfare. Nike is also a participant in the World Wildlife Fund's Climate Savers program.

Yes, Nike volunteers are paid for their efforts. The company has a special department dedicated to handling CSR activities.

Companies receive goodwill and advertisement which translates into increased brand value and demand for their products.

Ability to perform volunteer work on company time increases the employee's satisfaction and creates a sense of attachment towards the organization as he/she feels that she is a part of an organization that brings about a change.
