Describe, in detail, the size, structure and composition of the German and British beer industries.

According to the statistics there has been a decrease in beer consumption both in Germany and in the United Kingdom since 2008. However, It shows that more people prefer to purchase their beers in supermarkets, corner stores and drink it in their homes opposed to drinking in restaurants or private pubs. Because less people are drinking beer less in Germany and the United Kingdom there has been a decrease in its beer production however the beer production in both states were higher than the other 26 states. In 2013 there were 1,490 active breweries in the United Kingdom and 1,349 in Germany. There are 21 more breweries in 2013 than 2008. In 2013 there were 1,440 microbreweries in The United Kingdom and 668 in Germany. Germany has the highest direct employment (Employment generated directly by the brewing sector) rate (28,000), and the United Kingdom is not on the chart in 2013. The United Kingdom did however have direct employment in 2012 at 315,000. The per captia average for Germany was at 107 liters and the United Kingdom was at an all time low at 66 liters in 2013. The off trade (purchases in supermarkets, corner stores and off licenses) indicates that there was a 2% decrease in 2013. Germany’s on trade (purchases in pubs, hotels, cafes and restaurants) was very low in 2013 at 19%; the on trade was at an all time high of 2008-2013. In Germany it went from 99,910 hectoliters in 2008 and in 2013 it was 94,365 hectoliters. The United Kingdom went from 49,611 hectoliters to 41,956 from 2008-2013. The total imports for the United Kingdom had the highest rates of import, it was 8,778 hectoliters and Germany was 6,306 hectoliters. The exports was the other way around, Germany was at 15,091 hectoliters and the United Kingdom was at 6,549.
