Question

Please answer all questions.

1. Topography influenced by fluvial & glacial systems have multiple physical similarities & have settled in these regions. .Compare &contrast; the physical features of fluvial & glacial landscapes; What are some of the benefits &concerns; to settling in these regions? What role does the water cycle play in these two systems? . 2. What are the FIVE primary classifications of deposits? Please identify, define, and provide a geomorphology/landform example for each 3. How are the following terms related? subsurface flow - percoline- mass wasting · cycle play in these two systems?

Explanation / Answer

1.i)Comparison between fluvial and glacial landscapes :

ill sorted sediments are found.

ii) As the both regions are flood prone thus there must be some concern before ssettling in these regions. Due to global warming ice can be melted and the regions will be affected. On the other hand, to control the flood system, dams and drainage systems are needed.

iii) Water cycle plays a very important role in thses systems because both are controlled by water. Fluvial system is totally controlled by water cycle. On the basis of this cycle, gaining stream or loosing stream is formed. Besides, in the glacial system also, fluvioglacial landforms are found i.e. the combination of fluvial and glacial system.

2. Primary classification of deposits :

Fluvial landscape Glacial landscape Processes Abrasion, attrition, corrosion, corrasion are responsible for fluvial landforms. Abrasion and corrasion takes place. Erosional features River valleys, waterfall, potholes, terraces, gulleys, meandering channesl and ox-bow lake are formed due to erosion. In this case the glacial landforms are cirque, cirque stairway, U-shaped or trough valley and valley step. Ddepositional features Alluvial fans, natural levees, delta. Eskar, kame, moraine, outwash fan. Sorting Well sorted sediments are found.

ill sorted sediments are found.

Striation No striation is created Stiation is seen. Drainage pattern Different types of drainage patterns are created by river. No drainage pattern is formed here.
