1. Community health Information network (CHIN) is a combined collection of computer and telecommunication proficiencies that permit numerous providers, payers, employers, and related healthcare individuals within a geographic area to share and communicate client, clinical, and payment information.
The CHIN, constitutes the basic level of a multi-tier hierarchy, above which is the regional health information organization (RHINO) and the projected National Health Information Network (NHIN).
2. Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) is a set of organizations within a specific area that share healthcare-related info by electronic means according to accepted healthcare information technology (HIT) standards.
CHIN and the RHINO is the electronic health record (EHR), which will be fundamental to standardizing patient information and competently exchanging it.
3. The National Health Information Network (NHIN) is a set of standards, services and policies that allow safe health information exchange (HIE) over the Internet.
NHIN is assigned to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. RHINOs, is "building blocks" of NHIN, will give rise to an NHIN that will dispense a combined patient record based on data from different information systems, formats, organizations, and locations without affecting systems in which information is shared across distributed, varied technology environments including hospitals, clinics, and physician practices - in a complete, accurate, real-time data exchange environment.
4. Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, passed as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, signed into law on February 17, 2009, to encourage the acceptance and significant use of health information technology.
The concept of a patient-centered management system works on objectives that target improved outcomes, reduced costs, and increased liability to the patient. It includes development of flexible, interoperable technology; customization of patient care; production of healthcare information for public health agencies.
EHR is at the fundamental of creating a national health information network.
