Question
Que-3 Many economists would argue that private companies are likely to be more efficient than the government at operating airlines. Yet many economists would also argue that there is a valid reason for government to regulate the safety of those same airlines. Can you explain why the government might be at ensuring safety , even though it might not be good at operating the airlines?Que-4 Professional football teams sometimes charter airplanes to take them to their away games. Would you feel safer on a United Air Lines plane that had been chartered by the Washington Redskins than on a regularly scheduled United Air Lines flight?
Please give me separate and detail answer for life saver points thanks
Explanation / Answer
1.) There is not a vaild reason for the government to regualte safety of the airlines because not even the government can 100% guarantee the saftey. Just because they regulate it does not mean that unforseen problems go away. The government getting involved would cause more harm than good in the long run. One instance of this would be that lobbiest would come into the play for the airlines already founded to making saftey regulations so strict so it would stiffle new competion. Further more what inccentives would the airlines have to actually garantee and work on saftey if it was already taken care of by our government. All these regulations would drive up prices as well. It would also cause more deaths because of this as well. For instance lets say a baby was sitting in his parents lap during the plane, the plane went through turbulance, the baby hit his head and died. Following this the government made it that you have to buy plane tickets for the baby, making less people fly on planes. So more people drive to vacations unstead of paying the higher price for plane tickets in effect kill more people because fatal accidents are much more common than plane acciedents. This is an unforseen consequence, the government getting involved with regualting saftey would cause many of unforseen consequences leading to more harm from other things than the airlines themselves.
2.) No, I would not feel any safer, because I would fly on an airline and expect them to be up to par for any of its flights. Not just one for a football team or whatever, I would fly on an airline that main benfit was to get everyone from point A to B the same and not privlige people with safer flights. I am pretty sure just because a football team is comming on board a pilot is going to fly better. The pilot doesn't pick and choose when to fly safe, they do it all the time. This is because there lives are always at risk as well as the passengers no matter who they are.
