Question
Topic is OVERUSE IN HEALTHCARE
Please answer and provide details. Elaborate thoroughly on the topic please. Thank you!
Sampling Frame
Elaborate on your sampling frame here. The sampling frame is the smaller picture of the study population that you can actually obtain information from. For instance, in the same research that is interested in childhood education, the sampling frame may be 10 students from a local school. These ten students would then be used in your data collection process. This section requires one paragraph in length.
Explanation / Answer
OVERUSE IN HEALTHCARE
According to the Institute of medicine, overuse in health care refers to those health service provided to a patient where its benefit outweighs its risk. It also includes medical care provided to patients without any clear evidence of indicating any benefit to them.
In any healthcare setting, it is the responsibility of healthcare workers to provide evidence-based, high-quality and patient-centered care. However, in certain circumstances, the medical treatment might be utilized more than required. For example, a patient who suffers from a sore throat due to a virus might be prescribed an antibiotic which is totally not required. Another example is that a patient who suffers from persistent back pain is recommended a surgery where according to the evidence this is totally unnecessary. These healthcare practices represent overuse of healthcare. Simply, Overuse refers to using the resources in excess that required. Overuse can lead to sub-optimal patient care, may harm patients, increase personal and social costs of healthcare, etc.
Therefore, in this project, we would select a specific issue – overuse of healthcare services for patients with various infections for the management of infection. It is evident that provision of medical treatment which harms patients rather than benefitting them leads to sub-optimal patient care and increases health care cost.
Study population:
In order to establish this study, we much select appropriate people to be researched. We might choose people suffering multiple infections across a city. This will represent study population.
Sampling frame:
Following the selection of study population, we narrow the research activity to a sampling of the study population. This is called sampling frame. In order words, sampling frame represents everyone participating in a research activity (i.e. the population to be studied). In this scenario, we might choose a specific healthcare institution (a hospital) and a specific unit (e.g. medical ward, surgical ward, ICU, etc.) and create a list of patients who are undergoing antibiotic therapy. This will represent sampling frame.
