“Case of the Belated Lab Test”
Introduction: Tracking the turnaround time for the samples and the parameters that need to be tested plays a important role in patient lab test. After the criteria of sample receivable the processing time starts counting till the reporting of results to clinician within a given time frame. Uploading of results within a define time limit should be of major priority for healthcare labs. Generally all labs follow this time frame and try to ensure quality service to patients.
Sometimes samples are priorities depending on the urgency of sample. Hospitals operation theatre and ICU samples are kept at priority as a result sometimes delays of reporting for external samples are seen. Any delay in the result reporting should be intimidated to patient and should report as soon as sample is processed and analyzed. Keeping customers updated on their test keeps them aware and helps us to get their trust in us. I can distribute a feedback form for a couple of 1000 patients and get their views about how satisfied they are with the service.
Each customer expect on time results and quality of the results should of higher standards without much more biasness in the evaluation. I can use quality checking tool for the list of test done in lab and other tool where I can track the turnaround time for patient’s samples.
Concluion:
In order to keep a good time limit our team member should be active and work as a team. Uses of EHR system can improve and make the work faster. Even tracking of samples from collection, operation and reporting area is easy due to the current advancement in reporting and healthcare system.
