Question

Please answer and explain :)

A horizontal, retangular loop of wire, initially in a B-feild free region is pulled with constant velocity v into an extende region of uniform upward directed magnetic feild.

a_ What, if any, is the direction of the induced current when the loop is wholly contained in the unform field region? What is any is the direction of the ganetic force on the loop as it is puled through the uniform field region?

b.What is the direction of the induced current as the loop is pulled out of the uniform field region? What is the direction of the magnetic fore on the loop as it exits the uniform field region? (if any present)

Explanation / Answer

PART A:

The flux is increasing as it enters the region. Thus, it must counter the upward field by producing a downward field.

It can do so by producing a CLOCKWISE current. [ANSWER]

The magnetic force on it will then be TOWARDS WHERE IT CAME FROM (opposite v). [ANSWER]

PART B:

The flux is decreasing as it exits the region. Thus, it must support the upward field by producing an upward field.

It can do so by producing a COUNTERCLOCKWISE current. [ANSWER]

The magnetic force on it will then be TOWARDS WHERE IT CAME FROM (opposite v). [ANSWER]
