I feel the connection between homophobia and misogyny are not related. The two different sexes fill two different aspects that one is looking for. Most women tend to be more of a natural nurture, while most men tend to be the ones wanting to get nurtured. I feel it is the emotion that a person is looking for that draws them to the same sex. It seems like there are more issues with men being in a relationship with another man then it is with a woman and a woman, so if anything the sexism is more towards men than women. The issue with people against women is the fact that women are still working towards equality and that is not what history was about so that mind set is still being taught from older generations to the younger ones. People feel that “violence is committed against women because we are seen as inferior in status and in worth” (Pharr, 1997) and because of this mind set this is starting to change, but unfortunately, sexism is still being taught in homes today.
Since I feel they are two separate categories, the connection may not affect the other. The only connection is both groups are fighting for acceptance and equality. “Homophobia works effectively as a weapon of sexism because it is joined with a powerful arm, heterosexism” (Pharr, 1997). So when looking at it as connecting by one group affecting the other than equality then there is no correlation that I see.
