Question

Can someone explain please why in the following equations, you use the values inside the equation differently.

Three equations. Three different ways to EXTRACT frequency out of them, for the sake of calculating current or inductive/capacitance reactants.

1.) V(L) = (25 V)cos(60t)

Why is it that here you simply take 60, as the 60 Hz frequency.

2.) V = (170V)cos300t

Here to get frequency you have to do 300/2(PI) = to get 47.7 Hz as the frequency

3.) If you are given Vc = (18 V)cos(200t)

What would you do here? Is the frequency 1/200 ?

I will be given an equation of one of these. And ultimately have to calculate power dissipated, so I have to know exactly how I get the frequency.

Thanks for your help !!!!

Explanation / Answer

here ,

for V = Vo * cos(wt)

w is the angular velocity ,not frequency

frequency = w/2pi

hence , for 1)

frequency = 60/2pi Hz

frequency = 9.55 Hz

2)

here , w = 300 rad/s

frequency = 300/2pi Hz

frequency = 47.8 Hz

3)

here , w = 200 rad/s

frequency = 200/2pi Hz

frequency = 31.8 Hz
