Measuring the Speed of Sound in Air LAB :
Is the speed of sound independent of frequency? Does the speed of sound depend on anything that could be easily varied in this experiment? Compare and contrast transverse and longitudinal waves. What limited the number of resonances you found in the tube in this experiment for a given frequency?Explanation / Answer
1] yes the speed of sound is independent of the frequency
if the sound travels in the same media,changing the speed only change the wavelength.
v= f* lamda
so if we change the velocity there is a change in lamda only and not in frequency as it depends on the source
2]the speed of sound depends on temperature
Because temperature affects the density of air through which sound much pass.
so the velocity is affected by the temperature changes that we are going to bring
3] transverse wave ---> In this motion the particle of the waves are oscillating in a transverse way that is in a direction perpendicular to the motion of the wave
longitudinal wave ---> in this motion the particles of the wave are oscillating in horizontal direction which is in the direction in which the wave is propagating ...
4] The limitation to the no of resonances highly depends on the wavelength
which is dependent on the length of the tube
