Please give detailed answers for 10-15
10. When is more power delivered to a lightbulb, after it is turned on and the glow of the filament is increasing or after It has been on for a few seconds and the glow is steady? 11. Is the direction of current in a battery always from the negative terminal to the positive one? Explain. 12. Connecting batteries in series increases the emf applied to a circuit. What advantage might there be to connecting them in parallel? 13. If you have your headlights on while you start your car, why do they dim while the car is starting? 14. Two sets of Christmas lights are available. For set A, when one bulb is removed, the remaining bulbs remain illuminated. For set B, when one bulb is removed, the remaining bulbs do not operate. Explain the difference in wiring for the two sets. 15. Why is it possible for a bird to sit on a high-voltage wire without being electrocuted?Explanation / Answer
Solution:
10)
When the light bulb is switched on it starts to give light with constant intensity, if the voltage applied is being constant. if you decrease the potential then the bulb starts to struggle to glow. if you decrease voltage to very voltage then the bulb. if you go to higher voltage then it will damage the bulb.
11)
In battery system when '-' and '+' terminal connected by a wire then electrons are moving from '-' terminal to '+' terminal through this wire. the direction of current is defined as the opposite direction to that of electron motion. so the direction of current is "POSITIVE" to "NEGATIVE"
12)
If you connect the battery in serial mode then all emf's of battery get added to give net effect. so current will be maximum in serial mode connection. In other hand, in parallel mode connection then the total emf is equal to emf of single battery. but in parallel mode the total internal resistance is lower then that in serial mode.
13)
while starting the car the bulb glows dim because of to start the car high voltage from car battery is taken by the motor. so the current flowing through the bulb is low. because of this reason bulb glows dim.
14)
set A is connected in parallel mode and set B is connected in serial mode.
in parallel mode connection '-' and '+' terminal of each bulb is connected to the '-' and '+' terminal of battery respectively. so eliminating one bulb is not affecting other bulb. other are still connected to battery and glowing continuously.
but is serial mode of connection the one end of a bulb is connected to one of the end of other bulb. so activity of one any one bulb depends on other bulbs. if you remove one then circuit get broken and that is why it affects other bulbs.
15)
Because the bird sits on the high voltage wire touches only one wire. which mean that if it touches '-' line of high voltage then there is no potential difference. so there is no potential difference to produce the current. this is why the bird is not affected.
