Question

The diagram below is of a triangular prism that has three rectangular sides and two triangular sides. This prism is placed in a region of uniform magnetic field of magnitude 0.270 T directed in the positive x direction. Here ab = 30.0 cm, ac = 40.0 cm, bc = 50.0 cm, and ad = 83.0 cm.

Determine the magnetic flux, including the sign, through each of the five faces of the box.

0 Wb

I've gotten all of them except cbef. I'm calculating the area as (0.5 m)(0.83 m) and I am saying the angle is 45 degrees, since the plane is at 45 degree angle, the difference between the normal angle and B field should be 45, right? I think that might where I'm going wrong.

?abc = 0 Wb ?cbef =
What is the area of this surface? What is the angle between the normal to the surface and the magnetic field lines? Did you consider the sign of the flux? Wb ?abed = 0 Wb ?acfd = -0.0896 Wb ?def =

0 Wb

Explanation / Answer

be = 83 cm

bc= sqrt(402 + 302) = 50 cm

area = bc*be = 0.5*0.83 = 0.415 m2

magnetic flux = B*A*sin 45

= 0.27*0.415/sqrt(2)

= 0.08 Wb
