A skier jumps a gap between two symmetrical ramps that are separated by a distance D as shown below. Assume the skier takes off exactly at the end of the first ramp and lands at the top of the second ramp (travels a distance D in the horizontal direction). Each ramp makes an angle theta 20.0 degree with the horizontal. The skier is launched with a speed vi = 27.0 m/s off the ramp. Assume the air resistance can be neglected. (a) How long is the skier in the air? (b) What is the horizontal distance D? (c) what is the maximum height reached by skier above the top of the ramp?Explanation / Answer
A)
Here ,
V = 27 m/s
theta = 20 degree
NOw , time of flight , t = 2*V*sin(theta)/g
t = 2*27*sin(20)/9.8
t = 1.88 s
he is in air for 1.88 s
B)
Vx = 27*cos(20)
Vx = 25.37 m/s
Now ,
Distance = Vx*t
D = 25.37*1.88
D = 47.7 m
the horizontal distance D is 47.7 m
C)
Hmax = V^2*sin^2(20)/2g
Hamx = 27^2*sin^2(20)/(2*9.8)
Hmax = 4.35 m
the maximum height is 4.35 m
