Question

I have to write this really important lab for school and if I don't do it I lose both of my diplomas. So this is quite stressful for me and I keep freezing up because I panic but you don't need to hear my problems...

Okay, for my lab I need to mimic ecological succession, I have the procedure done (see http://www.carolina.com/text/teacherresources/booth_demos/simulating_succession.pdf).
Now I need to determine what variables to alter. I don't want to do light or temperature because it has to be a more complex lab. I thought of doing different concentrations of Nitrogen or Carbon but I don't know how to go about that. I also thought about doing different concentrations of phosphate or nitrate and my friend suggested nitric acid.
My dependent variable would be (hopefully) the biodiversity of the protozoan.

Once I get the independent variable decided on I can write my research question and finally be done with this and cry because I have spent the last 6 hours fretting about it.

Thank You times a million!

Explanation / Answer

Try altering either pH (if you have the equipment for it) or salinity.
