Question

Two objects are connected by a light string that passes over a frictionless pulley as shown in the figure below. Assume the incline is frictionless and take m1 = 2.00 kg, m2 = 7.10kg, and ? = 50.5?.

(b) Find the magnitude of the accelerations of the objects.
  m/s2

(c) Find the tension in the string.

Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. N

(d) Find the speed of each object 2.25 s after being released from rest.
m/s

(b) Find the magnitude of the accelerations of the objects. m/s^2 (c) Find the tension in the string. Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. N (d) Find the speed of each object 2.25 s after being released from rest. m/s

Explanation / Answer

The given inclination is at an angle of 50.5 degrees

b) Let T = tension in the string and a = common acceleration

7.10 a = 7.10 * 9.8 * sin 50.5 - T .........(1)

and T - 2 * 9.8 *sin50.5 = 2a ...........( 2)

adding the above two equations

9.10a = 5 *9.8*sin 50.5

a = 4.15 m/ s^2

c) T= 2 * a + 2*9.8sin 50.5

T = 2 * 4.15 + 19.6 * sin 50.5

T = 23.42 N

d) V = at = 4.15 * 2.25 = 9.33 m/s
