Please exaplain why its that answer. I want to see what I has previously had done wrong
A ball is thrown straight upward and moves in free fall. Choose a coordinate system with its origin at the release point of the ball and the positive direction upward.
Identify the sign of the velocity of the ball at the following times
a.just before the ball reaches its maximum height : a.negative b. positive c.zero
b. just after it reaches its maximum height :a.negative b. positive c.zero
c. at its maximum height : a.negative b. positive c.zero
Identify the sign of accelaration of the ball at the following times.
d. just before the ball reaches its maximum height :a.negative b. positive c.zero
e.just after it reaches its maximum height:a.negative b. positive c.zero
f. at its maximum height:a.negative b. positive c.zero
g. If the ball takes time t1 to reach its maximum height, how long will it take to return from its maximum height to ground level? (Write your answer in terms of t1 and use dt_1 for t1 as necessary.)
h.If the ball is thrown upward with a velocity of +vi, what will be the ball's velocity upon returning to ground level? (Write your answer in terms of vi and use v_i for vi as necessary.)
Explanation / Answer
note:
while travelling, for the first part i.e. from the release point to reaching maximum hight,
veloicty will be in upward direction and acceleration will be in downward direction
hence veloicty=+ve
acceleration=-ve
while coming back, veloicty will increase from 0 in downward direction and acceleration will also be
in downward direction
hence veloicty=-ve
acceleration=-ve
so answers are:
a)positive
b)negative
c. zero
d. negative
e. negative
f. negative
g. dt_1
h. -vi
