Question

In the figure, calculate the potential difference between points c and d by as many paths as possible. Assume that ?1 = 7.7 V, ?2 = 1.0 V, R1 = R2 = 10 ?, and R3 = 5 ?.

This is my second time asking this question. The first answer I was given was incorrect and I have tried to figure it out using similar problems as a guideline.

The answer is NOT 5.0V, 5.03V, 5.03mV, 85.06mV, 85.06V, 4.66mV or 4.66V. Please help and show calculations. Also, please type calculations because I have trouble reading the handwritten solutions. Thank you!!

Explanation / Answer

going along the loop badb

e1 - I1*R1 + I3*R3 = 0

7.7 - I1*10 + I3*5 = 0.................(1)

going along the path cbdc

-e2 - I3*R3 - I2*R2 = 0

-1 - I3*5 - I2*10 = 0 .................(2)

at b

I2 = I1 + I3 ....................(3)

I1 = 0.1175 A

I2 = 0.5525 A

I3 = -0.435 A

Vcd = I2*R2 = 0.5525*10 = 5.525 v <<------answer
