Question

In a diagram of electric field lines and electrically charged particles, how are the relative sizes of the charges determined?

A) The number of field lines in contact with a particle is directly proportional to the amount of charge on the particle.

B) The number of field lines in contact with a particle is directly proportional to the amount of charge on the particle squared.

C) There is no way to determine actual or relative amounts of electric charge on particles in an electric field diagram.

D) The amount of charge on a particle is proportional to the number of field lines encircling it.

Thank you! I always rate promptly for correct answers! :)

Explanation / Answer

If the magnitude of the charge is large then the lines that encircling the charge are closer to each other and if the mangitude of the charge is smalll then the lines are distannt from one another . Therefore,  the amount of charge on a particle is proportional to the number of field lines encircling it.. The correct answer is D
