Question
I said that Bob wired his speaker in phase because she hears it twice as loud. I'm not sure about part B. I said that he hears constructive interference because I ended up with a whole number. Need help, thanks.
7. Alice is listening to her favorite song, the note 3400 Hz, from a speaker (A) 100 cnm away. Soon her friend Bob comes in with his own speaker (B) and sets it up as shown in the figure below. His speaker is also playing Alice's favorite song f= 3400 Hz. Alice is pleased with Bob because now she hears her "music" twice as loud as before. a. Did Bob wire his speaker the same as Alice's or opposite in phase? Explain. b. As it is set up if Bob is standing as shown, what does he hear? Explain. V,ound 340 m/s Bob 150cm Alice 130cm 100cm 25cmExplanation / Answer
a) In phase.
Because when th two sources are in same phase the amplitude becomes double.
b) wavelength of the sounde wave, lamda = v/f
= 340/3400
= 0.1 m
path difference of the two sound waves = dA - dB
= 150 - 130
= 20 cm
= 0.2 m
= 2*lamda
so, at his point constructive interference takes place.
so, he also twise as loud as before.
