Question
Solve the following equation F = ma for the quantity a Solve the following equation PV = nRT for the quantity P. Solve the following equation b(a + c) = dt for the quantity b. Solve the following equation x = st + 1/2(aT^2) for the quantity s. A car moves along a straight so that its position (distance from the starting point varies) With time as described by the graph shown here Does the car ever go backward? Explain. Is the instanteneous velocity at point A greater or less than at point B? Explain. Two balls are rolled off a tabletop that is 2m above the floor. Ball A has a horizontal Speed of 5m/s and that of ball B is 4m/s. Assuming g = 10 m/s^2 how long does it lake each ball to reach the floor after it rolls off the edge ? How far does each ball travel horizontally before hitting the floor? If the two balls started rolling at the same time at a point 3m behind The edge of the table will they reach the floor at the same time?
Explanation / Answer
Question 3
Consider the motion in Y-direction :
Y = displacement = height = 2 m
Voy = initial velocity = 0 m/s
a = acceleration = 10 m/s2
t = time taken
Using the equation
Y = Voy t + (0.5) a t2
2 = 0 t + (0.5) (10) t2
t = 0.632 sec
for each ball , time taken is same as both the balls have same initial velocity in Y-direction.
distance travelled by A , horizontally = Xa = 5 x 0.632 = 3.16 m
distance travelled by B , horizontally = Xb = 4 x 0.632 = 2.53 m
They reach the floor same time since , they have same velocity in Y-direction as 0 since both travel horizontally from the edge
