Explanation / Answer
Answer
1) D) Gated channel proteins
Explanation : gated channel proteins are the pores in the plasma membrane which is lined by proteins. These allow the passage of ions to pass across the membrane.
The movement of ions through these gated channel proteins occur from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. Such transport of ions through gated channels are always passive (simple diffusion) because the concentration gradient is driving the transport and hence this transport doesn't require any energy.
2) d) continue indefinitely without decrement
Explanation :Diffusion potential is the driving force which drives the passive diffusion or simple diffusion of molecules across the cells.
Simple diffusion depends on concentration gradient (concentration difference) across the membrane.
Higher the concentration difference higher will be the rate of diffusion and vice versa
When the diffusion starts, the concentration gradient will be maximum therefore the diffusion rate will be very high but as soon as molecules start diffusing across the cell the concentration gradient start decreasing this will decrease the rate of diffusion. And ultimately when the concentration difference on two side will become zero then the diffusion will get stopped.
