Mrs Kings’s Breakfast Calorie Intake =363

Explanation / Answer

1.As, the total calorie intake in breakfast, lunch and dinner is given in the table, so after calculating it the total calorie intake becomes 2134.4 calories/ 2.1344 kcal

2. Total energy expenditure is the amount of calories burned each day when exercise is taken into account. It is calculated by multiplying BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate) with an activity multiplier

BMR for females is calculated as :

655 + (9.6 X weight in kg) + (1.8 x height in cm) – (4.7 x age in yrs)

Weight : 160 pounds = 72.5 kg

Height :5'4'' feet = 162.56 cms

Age : 43 years

So BMR = 655 + (9.6*72.5) + (1.8*162.56) - (4.7*43)

= 1441.5

Now, we have to multiply this with an activity multiplier, which can be seen in the table below

Amount of Exercise/Activity Description TDEE/ Maintenance

Sedentary   Little or no Exercise/ desk job TDEE = 1.2 x BMR

Lightly active   Light exercise/ sports 1 – 3 days/ week TDEE = 1.375 x BMR

Moderately active Moderate Exercise, sports 3 – 5 days/ week TDEE = 1.55 x BMR

Very active Heavy Exercise/ sports 6 – 7 days/ week TDEE = 1.725 x BMR

Extremely active Very heavy exercise/ physical job/ training 2 x/ day TDEE = 1.9 x BMR

Now, as in question , the activity of women is sedentary, so we will multiply the BMR calculated above with 1.2

So TDEE = 1.2 * 1441.5

TDEE = 1729.8 calories / 1.7298 kcal

3.Her excess calories on this day cal be calculated from the table below

According to this table she should maintain a total calorie intake of 1635 calories /day but her total calorie intake /maintenance is 1729.8 calories , the amount of excess calories is 94.8

In my opinion her diet is completely off the line with AMDR value, because in her age the AMDR value for Carbohydrates is 45-65, for proteins it is 10-35 and for total fats it is 20-35.

AMDR is defined as a range of intakes for a particular energy source that is associated with reduced risk of chronic disease while providing adequate intakes of essential nutrients.

If an individual consumes below or above this range, there is a potential for increasing the risk of chronic diseases shown to affect long-term health, as well as increasing the risk of insufficient intakes of essential nutrients.

therefore, if Mrs.kings continues to take this amount of nutrients, she will develop some serious disease. So, she should try cutting down some amount and incorporate active exercising in her routine which will help her in burning the excess calories.
