Question

Suppose it's winter and very cold outside. You plan to leave your house for several hours. Your neighbor says it would use less energy to turn your heat off while you are gone, and turn it back on when you return home. Your uncle tells you that the way to use less energy is to leave the heat on while you are gone. (He says that if you turn it off you will use more total energy heating the house back up when you return home.) This is a hotly debated issue for some. Strictly as far as energy conservation is concerned, who's correct Why Conservation isn't necessarily everything. What are some legitimate reasons that you might make the choice that uses more energy

Explanation / Answer

(a) the neighbour is correct. we should turn off the heat.it is beacuse if we keep the heat on, a lot of energy will be wasted. when you are back home, you can again turn the heat on.

(b) keeping the heating system on may result in the usage of more energy. But sometimes we go for that option regardless of energy conservation . one of reasons may be that you return home in cold and would want an immediate heating to feel comfortable.in that case , you will prefer that the heat was kept on . otherwise if it was kept off, it will a long time to heat up the room again.
