Question

For the circuit in (Figure 1) , assume the electric potential is zero at the negative terminal of the battery. Suppose that R1 = 900 , R2 = 1500 and E = 24 V .

B) Calculate the electric potential at position a.The electric potential of the lower wire is zero.

C) Determine the current through the R1 = 900 . Express your answer with the appropriate units. Enter positive value if the current through the resistor is directed to the right and negative value if the current through the resistor is directed to the left.

E) Determine the current through the 1200- resistor. Express your answer with the appropriate units. Enter positive value if the current through the resistor is downward and negative value if the current through the resistor is upward.

Explanation / Answer

R1 = 900 , R2 = 1500 and E = 24 V

Using kirchoff Voltage and Current law,
Let the
e = I* R1 + I/2 * 1200
24 = I*900 + I * 600
I = 0.016 A
Current through the R1, = 0.016 A

Current through the 1200- resistor, = I/2 = 0.008 A

Potential at point "a" = I/2 * 1200 - I/2 * 900
Va = 0.008 * 1200 - 0.008 * 900
Va = 2.4 v
