Question

Part A Determine the work done by this force to move the particle along the x axis from x=0.0 to x=10.0m; Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units. Part B Determine the work done by this force to move the particle along the x axis from x = 0.0 to x = 15.0 m. Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units. Part C Calculate the centripetal acceleration of the Earth in its orbit around the Sun. Assume that the Earth's orbit is a circle of radius 1.50×1011m. Part D Calculate the net force exerted on the Earth from part C.

Explanation / Answer

for a and b just put values in given formula

Work done = F dx

It's the area under the curve of F against x between the limits you give.

C)

The period which the Earth orbits around the Sun is:

(365.26 day)(24 hr/day)(3600 s/hr) = 31558464 s

The centripetal acceleration of the Earth in its orbit around the sun will be:

a = v^2 / r = (2r/T)^2/r = 4^2*r / T^2

Then a = 4^2(1.5 x 10^11m) / (31558464 s)^2= 0.005946m/s^2

D)

We know that the mass of Earth is 5.98 x 10^24 kg. So the net force exerted on the Earth is: F = ma
F = (5.98 x 10^24 kg)(0.005946m/s^2) = 3.55566 x 10^22 N
