Question

Hey, I don't think I fully understand what this wants me to do? Could you please show work and/or explain? Thank you, I need help.

1) So far we have learned that the formula for Kinetic Energy is KE mv However, for this lab we would like to describe the motion of the objects using momentum, p mv, instead of velocity. Use the two equations given to find a new formula for Kinetic Energy in terms of momentum not velocity. 2) Define "inelastic collision" in words and equations 3) Aball is fired horizontally at vo from a table that is h tall. Provide a full solution to the question "How far away does the ball strike the ground?" (A "full solution" has all important steps as well as the final answer written in terms of given variables, including g.)

Explanation / Answer

Take it easy , solve it in this way:

At table

x0= 0m , y0= h m, t0= 0s

v0y= 0 m/s , v0x= v0

At ground. x1,y1, v1x, v1y and t1

ax= 0m/s2, and ay= -g m/s2. [ only gravity ]

We have to find expression for x1

Kimatic equations with ax= 0 and ay = -g are:

x1= x0+ v0x(t1-t0)= v0t1

y1= 0 = y0+ v0y(t1-t0) -1/2 g(t1-t0)2= y0-1/2gt12

t1= [2y0/g]1/2

Hence

x1= v0[2y0/g]1/2

That is the expression , you are looking for.
