Question

In the circuit shown, you increase the resistance of the variable resistor R. What can you say will happen in the circuit?

The answer is also not the combination

•Resistor 1 will get more current

•Resitor 1 will have a smaller voltage drop

•The battery will put out less current

Would someone help me understand this, Thank you

In the circuit shown, you increase the resistance of the variable resistor R. What can you say will happen in the circuit? RI R2 Resistor 1 will get more current The battery will put out less current The battery will reduce its EMF Resistor 2 will get more current Resistor 1 will have a smaller voltage drop across it Resistor 2's voltage drop will not change The battery will put out more power

Explanation / Answer

since R and R1 are parallel to each other,then potential drop acorss R and R1 are same

V_R = V_R1

I*R = I1*R1

if R is increased then I decreases and hence

resistor 1 will get more current

Resistor 2's voltage drop will not change
