Consider specifically how children’s experiences of growing up in the “New South” were shaped by race, class, gender, and sexuality. Consider how such experiences shaped the family politics of labor, education, and notions of ‘destiny’ for white and black children.
Explanation / Answer
Free labor according to jim crow meand separate but equal. Jim crow imposed the law discriminating the whites and black which has profound impact on the economy and culture of america
The five pillars of jim crow are:-
1. Economic oppression :- the blacks were given inferior work because the whites were afraid that if they were given a higher jobs there supremacy will be effected
2.Political oppression:- blacks were not allowed to vote. this was the biggest blow to the blacks and they atart moving out of the south and were severly affected both in terms of respect and economic growth
3.Legal oppression:- All judges and juries were white , so blacks had a very tough time in court
4. Social oppression:- separate rest rooms , drinking fountains, sitting area were provided for whites and blacks. Blacks were conisdered as inferior part of the society
5. Personal oppression:- white people can beat, rape, torture, and kill blacks
Blacks were outparted from the society and this impacted the economy as a whole , people start leaving america and blacks start living together in one area for survival.
New south was having very less number of blacks in the area with only 26% of the population in the south.
