The rod has aresistance of 2.2 The magnetic field is 0.34 T and the resistance of the U- shaped conductor is 21.0 n at a given instant Figure 1 outward)

Explanation / Answer

PART A :

Induced EMF = V = BLV

Where B is magnetic field

V : velocity of rod

L : length of rod

V = 0.34 x 0.28 x 1.3 = 0.12376 V

Hence the emf induced is 0.12376 V

PART B:

Current in the u shaped conductor is I = V/R

R =2.2 + 21 = 23.2 ohms

I =0.12376/(23.2) = 5.33 x 10-3 A

Hence the current in u shaped conductor is 5.33 x 10-3 A

Part C

Force required is F = B2 L2 v / R

F= (0.342 x 0.282 x 1.3 )/ 23.2

F = 5.08 x 10-4 N

Hence the force required is F = 5.08 x 10-4 N
