Question

Part C & D Please

Two closed loops A and C are close to a long wire carrying a current I. While I is increasing, what is the direction of the net force that the wire exerts on loop A? the wire exerts an upward force on loop A. the wire exerts a downward force on loop A. the wire exerts no force on loop A. While I is increasing, what is the direction of the net force that the wire exerts on loop C? The wire exerts a downward force on loop C. the wire exerts an upward force on loop C. the wire exerts no force on loop C.

Explanation / Answer

The straight wire carrying a current I produces a magnetic flux into the page through the rectangular loop. By Lenz’s law, the induced current in the loop must be flowing counterclockwise in order to produce a magnetic field out of the page to counteract the increase in inward flux and that of oppositely with the circular loop.
