Question

I only need question #2 answered, and with an explanation PLEASE! Thank you!!

Two identical charged METAL balls have charges +5 mu C and - l mu C. Now you bring them together so they touch, then move them back to their original positions. What is the charge on each one now? A: Same as before B: They swap: the first becomes -1 muC, the 2nd becomes +5 mu C C: +3 mu C on each. D: +2 mu C on each E: Not sure/not enough information What happens to the magnitude of the electrical force between the two spheres after they are touched? A: The electrical force magnitude afterwards is larger than before touching. B: The electrical force magnitude afterwards is smaller than before touching. C: The electrical force magnitude afterwards is the same as before touching. D: Cannot be determined without more information.

Explanation / Answer

2) intially magnitude of force = (kx 5 x 1 )/r^2 = constant * 5

after touching them charge redistribution will take place

2 uC on each of sphere

now force becomes = k *2*2 /r^2 =constant * 4

so we can see force has decreased.

option B is correct .
