Question

Use the following results of the "Acceleration/velocity" experiment to fill out the table below Amount of weight hanging over the pulley? Tension in the cord while the cart is moving under the influence of the weight hanging over the pulley? When does the weight at the end of the pulley hit the floor? Between what times is the cart moving away the sonar? At what range of times is the cart closest to the sonar? Cart's acceleration when it is moving under the influence of the weight hanging over the pulley? Cart's velocity at 2.0 seconds? Cart's acceleration at 2.0 seconds? Mass of the cart?

Explanation / Answer

From the graph we can see that

At t = 2 s

Velocity of cart = 0.8 m/s

From equations of motion we have :

v = u + at

where u = 0 m/s

t = 2 s and v = 0.8 m/s

0.8 = 0 + a*2

a = 0.8/2 = 0.4 m/s^2

Now we can see that force at that time = 1 N

f = m a

m = f/a = 1/0.4 = 2.5 kg

mass is constant everywhere. .
