Question

Consider a rock that is thrown off a bridge of height 11 m at an angle ? = 22° with respect to the horizontal as shown in the figure above. If the initial speed the rock is thrown is 13 m/s, find the time at which the rock lands.

I have found the following so far, but no matter what equations I try to find total time I keep getting told I have the wrong answer (all the others are correct though):

Time at maximum height: 0.4969s
Maximum height reached by rock: 12.21m

I've tried 1.995, 1.910, 2.152, & 0.9938 as answers for time at which rock lands using different equations, but all were incorrect.

Explanation / Answer

vertical component of the velocity=usin?=13sin22=4.869m/sec now maximum height reached= 4.869*4.869/ 19.6 +11=12.209
now time to reach maximum height=usin22/9.8=13sin22/9.8=0.4969sec
