Question

If there is two solenoids, one inside the other, each carry current I= 2.00 Amps, but in the oposite direction. If the inner solenoid has aradius a1= 2.00cm and n=10turns/m and outer has radius a2= 4.00cm and n=10 turns/m. If I want to find the magnitude and direction between the solenoids, do I subtract the outside magnetic field with the small one, I used B= µ0nI to calculate the magnetic field. and the direction of the magnetic field between the two solenoids is the same as the outer solenoid since the magnetic field is larger?

Explanation / Answer

current through each solenoid is 2 A

so i1 = i2 = 2A

radius of inner solenoid r1 = 2 cm

number of turns of inner solenoid n1 = 10 turns / meter

radius of outer solenoid          r2 = 4 cm

number of turns of outer solenoid n2 = 10 turns / meter

magnetic field in side the solenoid 1 is

                   B1 =B2 = (4*10^ -7 ) ( 10)(2A )

                               = 0251*10^ -4 T

since magnetic field in the side the solenoid  is independent on radius of the solenoid
