Question
Civil Engineering (Transportation)
Many rural roads have short bridges across small streams or drainage ditches. typically, many of these bridges are also quite narrow with a railing (or low concrete wall) at or just beyond the normal edge-of-pavement line (edgeline) . You are the engineer in charge of developing new standards for the width of new or reconstructed bridges. Describe an experiment that could be done to determine how far beyond the edgeline the railing/wall would need to be in order to have no discernible impact on the behavior of 95% of drivers crossing such a bridge.
Explanation / Answer
We can use experiment in which false restriction at a section of road are generated and the vehicles are then allowed to pass through that section. These restriction are made to adjust the width of the road, so that we cab find the width of road which adequate or subsequently we can get the positions of railings. A videographical survey is need to be done for this purpose.
