Question

Here is the question Iam presented with:

A hawk is carrying a snake at an altitude of 543 meters. It istraveling completely horizontally with a ground speed of 35 m/s.right as it passes over a cactus, the hawk drops the snake. How farfrom the cactus will the snake land? How long will it take? How fardid the snake fall?

I'm not looking for an answer only. I'm having trouble in figuringout the process in going through each question and answering them.I have my givens down for X and Y, but I'm not sure what process oruse which equations to go through. Help! Thank you.

Explanation / Answer

initial horizontal or x-component of velocity=35 m/s horizontal acceleration=0 initial vertical or y component of velocity=0 vertical acceleration=g=9.8 u=0 vertical distance covered by the snake=h=543 m let time taken to hit the ground by the snake=t h=u*t+(1/2)*g*t2 543=0+(1/2)*9.8*t2 t=10.53 s since horizontal acceleration=0 the snake will land =35*10.53=368.44 m from the cactus the snake traveled a distance of=(368.442+5432)=656.2 m
