Question

Please help! For molecular genetics class. I'm so confused for both questions. Are both for pregnancy tests? Or is 1. a syphillis test and 2. a strep test??? Please explain in detail.

1. Rabbit antibody made against mouse antibodies (Rabbit anti-mouse antibody). describe in detail how this test works. In your description, you should define the following components of the test and indicate how each works and in which zone they work. Describe what happens in tests from negative and positive urine

2. Enzyme substrate that turns a purple color when the enzyme reacts with it (a “dye”). describe in detail how this test works. In your description, you should define the following components of the test and indicate how each works and in which zone they work. Describe what happens in tests from negative and positive urine

Explanation / Answer

Syphilis test - About 50% of pregnant women who is having syphilis give birth to a infected baby like several neurological problems.

Strep test - is a type of bacterial infection found in pregnant women's inner parts and passed to baby during labor and birth.

2. Dyes are soluble in water and organic solvent.

Enzyme and substrate undergoes reaction and form enzyme substrate complex. Glucose polymers such as starch react with iodine to form purple coloured complex.Dye used in this is Tyrian purple.

When an enzyme mixed with D-alanine in the presence of pyruvate gives purple colour. Purple crystals are obtained from anearobic solution of an enzyme.

It was found that crystal is composed of equimolar amounts of enzyme and substarte moieties which is readily converted to equimolar amounts of oxidised enzymes and products.

These results established a view that the entity of purple coloured substance is an enzyme substrate complex which is involved in equilibrium state of enzymatc reaction under anaerobic conditions.
