A projectile is fired with an initial speed of 60.0 m/s at an angle of 30.00 above the horizontal on a long flat firing range. Determine: (a) The maximum height reached by the projectile. (b) The time it takes to get to the maximum height (c) The total time in the air. (d) The total horizontal distance covered (that is, the range). (e) The velocity of the projectile 1.50s after firing distance. o e e o e | 210 PM a (P . D x 10/4/2017

Explanation / Answer

(a) Hmax = u2sin2 / 2g = 45.87 m

(b) time of flight = 2usin/g

time taken to reach maximum height = usin/g = 1.53 s

(c) Total time in air = 2usin/g = 3.06 s

(d) Range = u2sin2/g = 317.81 m

(e) At t=0,

horizontal component of velocity = u*cos = 51.96 m/s

Vertical component of velocity = u*sin = 30 m/s

At t=1.5 s,

horizontal component of velocity = 51.96 m/s

Vertical component of velocity = 30 - (9.81*1.5) = 15.285 m/s

net velocity = [(51.96)2 + (15.285)2] = 54.16 m/s
