Question

Please answer these 2 questions An electron, with an initial horizontal velocity of magnitude 5.68 x 109 cm/s, travels into the region between two horizontal metal plates that are electrically charged. In that region, It travels a horizontal distance of 2.62 and has a constant downward acceleration of magnitude 3.09 1017 cms2 due to the charged plates. Fr a) the time equired by the elect on t travel the 2.62 cm and (b) the vertical distance it travels during that time. Also find the magnitudes of the (c) horizontal and (d) vertical velocity components of the electron as it emerges (a) Number (b) Number (c) Number (d) Number Units Units Units Units

Explanation / Answer

a) Time Required is t = 2.62 / 5.68*10^9

                              = 0.4613*10^-9 s

b) vertical distance is

y = 0.5*ay*t^2

= 0.5*(3.09*10^17)*(0.4613*10^-9)^2

= 0.0329 cm

c) Horizontal Velocity will remain same as there is no acceleration

vx = 5.68*10^9 cm/s

d) v y = a*t

    = (3.09*10^17)*(0.4613*10^-9)

= 1.425*10^8 cm/s
