Question
Cardiac defibrillator's are discussed in Section 17-9 of the textbook by Giancoli. (a) Choose a value for the resistance so that the 1.0 micro Farad capacitor can be charges to 3000V in 2.0 seconds. Assume that this 3000 V is 95% of the full source voltage. (b) The effective resistance of human body can be taken as 10(^4) ohm. if the defibrillator discharges with a time constant of 10ms, what is the effective capacitance of the human body. Chose a value for resistance to show me the example to work it! Thank you!
Explanation / Answer
a) 0.95 = ( 1- e^-t/ RC)
0.05 = e^ ( -2/ Rx 10^-6)
3= ( 2x10^6/ R)
R = 9.98 x 10^5 ohms apprx
b) time consatnt = RC
10 x 10^-3 = 10^4 C
C = 0.01 F
