Question

I need some serious help with this problem. Dynamics is very rusty right now.

Homework 1.2: The collar D is moving along the track AB. At the instant shown, D has velocity vD = 2 m/s (downward). Determine the the angular velocities of bar AB and bar DB at this instant.

I need some serious help with this problem. Dynamics is very rusty right now. The collar D is moving along the track AB. At the instant shown, D has velocity vD = 2 m/s (downward). Determine the the angular velocities of bar AB and bar DB at this instant.

Explanation / Answer

Vd = 2m/s

velocity perpendicluar to DB = V cos 45 = sqrt 2.

hence ,

angular velocity = sqrt2/sqrt(0.2^2 +0.2^2)

angular velocity of DB = 5 rad/s

for AB,

perpendicular velocity to AB, = v cos 45 * cos 45 =2/2 =1,

now,

angular velocity of AB= 1/0.2 = 5 rad/s
