Question

Part A The net force exerted on a particle acts in the positive z direction. Its magnitude increases linearly from zero at z = 0, to 370 N at x = 2.0 m Determine the work done to move the particle from 0to z 14.5 m graphically, by determining the area under the Fa versus z graph. It remains constant at 370 N from 2.0 m to z 6.6 m , and then decreases linearly to zero at 14.5 m . Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units. Explanation / Answer

Solution :

Work done to move the particle from x = 0 to x = 14.5 m

W = Area under the trapezium ABCD

= 0.5 (AD + BC) CE

= 0.5 *(14.5 + 4.6)(370)

= 3533.5 J
